Top 10 Driving Roads in Cape Town #1

Top 10 Driving Roads in Cape Town #1

      By Jacques Viljoen

So deciding I wanted to do something a little different to my usual product reviews. I pondered for a while about what I could do that would be a nice step away from the reviews and features. Then it dawned on me with a great drive along the coast, what if I did a feature about the Top Driving roads in Cape Town. We live in a very beautiful country and I am fortunate enough to live in the best city in South Africa, Cape Town. Just within a 150 kilometer radius from where I stay, you will find Karoo like bushveld, beautiful coastal roads and stunning wine valleys.

With all that out the way, on to the first road in this series:

A short introduction to me and my car:

Although I consider myself a true petrol head, I am by no means a racing driver. But according to me, a true petrol head should make the most of the car he or she drives. Whether it is a Polo or a Porsche, as long as you just have fun. I drive a 2007 VW Polo 1.6 petrol, which is not a fast car, but it handles very well. Even though it is slow, it is still a fun car to drive.

The road between Gordon’s Bay and Rooi Els is a true stunner featuring long straights, tight corners, hairpins, beautiful ocean and mountain views. If you are the type of driver that loves to hit the apex in the corner perfectly, this stretch of road will not disappoint you. There are plenty of tight corners with nice straights in between, which really makes it feel like you’re on a race track or even James Bond with the panoramic views.

The views on this route are spectacular. To your left you’re against a mountain cliff and to your right you have kilometres of open Atlantic Ocean.

The great thing about this road is the fact that you don’t have to drive recklessly fast to enjoy it. I did about 80 – 90 km/h most of the time and I had a blast. Just keep an eye out for cyclists. There are plenty of stopping and picnic areas along the road, both on the mountain and ocean side.

I am very excited to see where this series will take me. I know there are places that I haven’t discovered yet.

      GoPro Soon to Launch Drones

      GoPro Soon to Launch Drones

      Written By Elzette

There has been quite a few drone brands incorporating the high definition GoPro camera to its aerial technology, thus bringing production value to unmanned aerial vehicles. That’s why it’s not surprising that GoPro Inc. is developing its own line of consumer drones.

GoPro has been made famous amongst the sporting industry for introducing wearable technology and the sky is the limit for this 10 year old company.

The company intends to start selling multirotor helicopters equipped with high-definition cameras late next year, aiming for a price tag between $500 and $1,000. Consumer drones have been seeing a spike in interest from the public since it introduced a smaller, cheaper and easier way to fly.

According to the Wall Street Journal, GoPro’s move into drones comes as its market-leading camcorder business faces competition from rivals such as Sony Corp. GoPro Inc. (which has gone public this year) has been investing heavily in research and development to maintain its lead in the camera business, which shipped nearly 2.8 million units in the first nine months of the year, up 15% from the same period last year.

Also, other drone makers could stop supporting GoPro devices if they are competing head-to-head with the camera maker.

“I’m happy to let GoPro keep making great cameras and we’ll keep making great copters,” said Colin Guinn, senior vice president of sales at Berkeley, Calif.-based 3D Robotics Inc., which sells GoPro cameras with its drones.

The day Kevin and little Nicky walked into the ActionGear.TV studio, the entire team was inspired from the get-go. Nicky was wearing the biggest smile and greeted each one of us with a huge hug and a lot of love. The Garwood team is made up of Kevin and Nicholas, a father and disabled son triathlete team.

When Nicholas was diagnosed with cerebral palsy as a baby, Kevin took on his son’s disability and stopped taking part in any kind of sport – quit his job and stayed home to take care of his son he loved more than life itself. But after watching a video of an American dad who took part in races with his disabled son, Kevin got a new sense of hope in giving Nicky more in life. He showed Nicholas the video and saw his face light up.

At first Kevin started training slowly. “I started out on a mountain bike but was so unfit everyone had to stop and wait for me.” Their first official race together was the 702 Walk the Talk before they tackled the Dome to Dome 40km cycle race. But one of the biggest feats must be completing the Iron Man in 2013! Kevin also tells us how Nicky would encourage him to go “faster, faster” and is one of the best motivators to have on these races. “I just love his attitude, he wants to change the world,” Kevin says proudly.

Currently they are training for the France Challenge Vichy and Challenge Roth and we can’t wait to follow their career closely in 2015! The sky is the limit with Team Garwood. Check out their interview with us and why not give them some support on their Facebook page.
